To build a solar heating unit, You need a couple of sheets of plywood, couple sheets of
plexiglass, Polycarbonate is better in a solar heater. Some caulking and a few boards and sheet
insulation. Don't forget the thin metal sheeting for lining the inside solar heater and some flat
black paint.

You can get all the above from your local Lowes or Home Depot hardware store, Remember you
have to breath the air that comes from inside the solar heating unit so keep it toxin free. You
might want to get some ducting with a induct fan. I think pushing the air is better then pulling it
through the solar heater. But that is up to you.

If you are any good at tinkering with electric maybe you can do the following or get a friend who
knows electronics to help. You can remove the plastic parts from a home heating thermostat and
set it for cool. Mount it in the top part of the heater and set to come on at around 100 to 110 deg.
Make sure you are able to get to it till you can get it set right so not turn on the fan till it is hot
enough. Go by the local electronics store (Radio Shack or most any) and get a relay to hook the
thermostat to. This is because the thermostat will not be able to handle 120 volts of household
electric. Get a switch so you can shut it off and on. So when the thermostat clicks on it will trigger
the relay and turn on the fan. Worked for me.. Or you can un-plug it when you don't want it to run.

During my testing it was about 25 deg F out side with snow on the ground. I was getting about 85
deg increase in air temp from the solar heater. I seen it higher a few times. An 8 foot heating
panel will heat one room enough to run you out of there. Depending on the room size.

If you like you can build a couple or three of these solar heaters and run the heat through a bed
of rocks or bricks and have heat for the night. Might be a new project for me to try out later.

I created these prints based on my first solar heating unit and are free for you to use to build
your solar heater. I am no engineer so I would double check everything.
