Solar Advantages, Disadvantages, Really more like tidbits of useful information on solar
energy. It really depends on what you want solar electric for. If it is to save money there are
a few places where you can when using solar electric. Most of the time you will have to wait a
few years to get a full pay back. It would be a good idea to install solar energy on your home
when you build it new for the best ROI. However if you are willing to install a battery bank
you will make your money back in benefits. You will have electric power when the grid goes
off line. However a backup electric system can be installed without the solar panels but is not
of much help if the power is out for days at a time.

1. For Solar Advantages Disadvantages. I know of no disadvantages of solar heating. It will
pay for it’s self very quickly. However, You will need another means of heat for times of no
sun like on cloudy days.

2. Did you know that the shade from a dead tree branch across the corner of one solar
panel can kill most of the power of a solar array if wired in series.

3. Solar panels lose volts when they heat up in the sun.

4. Solar panels produce more voltage at colder temps.

5. A solar charger (solar panel) without a charge controller can over charge your car
battery. Car batteries are 12 volts and even the smallest solar panels are normally 16.5
volts or higher.

6. Grid tie solar electric has a safety device so when the electric grid goes off line so does
your solar power. This is to save life's.

7. Most states the Electric Co. will only buy back equal wattage from you that you buy from
them.

8. You can have backup electric power with and/or without solar electric.

9. Solar panels require a clear view of the sun from 9 in the morning till 3 in the after noon.

10. If you are grid-tied you use the grid as a large battery backup.

11. Only about 80% of the solar electric that the solar panels generate make it to the
batteries. There is heat loss, wire loss and charge controllers use electric to control the
voltage and amps.

12. Solar electric is clean, renewable, no pollution and has a never ending power supply or
fuel source.

13. If you need more power you can just add solar panel arrays and battery banks as
needed.

14. In a lot of places in the USA grid power is cost more then solar.

15. With solar power you can have electric in your hunting cabin where there is no grid
power like on boats.

16. If there is no power lines where you build your new home or job site you don’t have to
pay 10s of thousands of dollars to bring in the grid when you can go solar for about the
same cost.

17. Solar electric adds value to your home for resale.

18. You can normally resale your solar panels for as much or more then you paid for them
years later.

19. There are no electric rate increases when you own your own solar electric power plant.

20. If you pay 100 dollars per month for renting electric from the public utility and a solar
electric system last 30 years on avg. Then Why not get solar because your rental is 36,000
dollars and that is about the cost of a system. What if you added in the cost of living
increases and fuel cost increases? You could end up paying the utility over 100 grand in 30
years. You could buy 3 or 4 solar power systems for that much.
