I have been ask many times if a battery bank can be wired and charged as 24 volt or 48 volts with a 12 volt inverter tied in.
So I tested it.

The answer is yes you can but you only have the amp hour rating of the total of the batteries it takes to make 12 volts. I'm sure the 12v tap will get help from the rest of the bank, but not much.

This battery bank is wired to charge 24 volts. Notice the large cables are wired 12 volts from
two 6 volt batteries. This setup was not able to run an 1100w microwave oven as it did before.
This is because it is only getting the power from 2 batteries. The inverter shuts down for low voltage when the microwave is started.

I feel wiring in this method will damage the battery bank and will require an EQ or the cells will not be equal in charge.
