Low Cost, Modified Sine Inverters
Modified sine wave inverters are the easiest type of an inverter to find.
It is a low priced unit with below standard sine wave form when compared to normal house
electric. It has a squared wave form where True or Pure sine wave is rounded and smooth.
The squared type of a wave form will cause the early death to an electric motor. You will hear
a hammering sound or loud humming from the motor.
Bread makers require a pure or true sine wave to work properly. A digital clock may run ahead
as in under cooked bread in the bread maker. The square wave form of this type of a inverter is
confusing to digital clocks. Useful but not a good product for standard home use. I have read
statements about this wave form not charging laptops and other batteries correctly. I noticed my
electric drill charger will not stop charging. I have 3 brands of these inverters. I keep a 300 watt
inverter under my truck seat for just in case. I have a 750 watt just because it was the first inverter
I bought. And I have a 2000 watt inverter as a backup in case my true sine wave inverter which I
use for my home breaks down and needs repairs.
The Modified Sine Inverter is good to have around because they normally come with battery
clips and are more of a plug and play type of inverter.
Instant AC power when needed is not a bad thing.
