| Modified Sine Wave Inverters. When you buy an inverter you can get away with a cheaper low cost modified sine wave type as long as you are not planing to use it on electric motors or charge batteries and forget about it. I have read where a modified sine wave inverter will confuse small battery chargers and they will not stop charging. It has never happened to me because I don’t put my laptop on charge from modified sine wave inverters for any longer then needed to allow me to use it. If I am in a need to charge my lap top in my automobile then I am in a hurry to use it so it is not normally charging very long. |

| As said above, cheap inverters will make Electric Motors hammer or make a hammering sound because of the squared wave form of the modified sine wave. Unless you get a high quality brand of inverter like the Xantrex DR series inverters you might end up with an odd wave form which you will have troubles with clocks and bread makers. Some modified sine wave inverters will not work with a neutral grounded or transformer device like a desk top computer or most any power strip or UPS. The neutral ground or transformer will put cheap inverters in to alarm mode and cause a shut down |
