Solar Battery Box Enclosure | Home Made Battery Enclosure
Deep Cycle Solar Battery Price List
This home made solar battery Enclosure is made
from, About a sheet and a half of plywood.
About five, 8 foot 2x2’s
Three treated 2x4’s
2 door hinges
1 lifting handle
About 12 foot of door jam foam
3 tubes of caulking
Lots of wood screws
A hot water tank flue to let the fumes out.
Or see Passive Battery Venting Page.
The Solar Battery Box Base Is made placed on
the bottom of the box in a way, so the ends of
each battery are being supported by a board.
Then runner boards are put on to keep the box
stable and not allow it to deform.
The top of the battery box has been caulked
to keep the fumes in the box so they can flow
up the flue out of the building. Fumes from a
bank of batteries can get pretty thick and would
ignite if they caught a spark from pretty much
anything. With solar power you will have a
source for ignition in the power inverter or the
charge controller.
You can see the 3/8 inch of door jam foam
around where the lid closes to make sure
battery box has a great seal. This makes the
lid of the box stand up a little higher then the
back of the box where the flue hooks on so
a small spacer will be needed to raise the
hinges so the lid will shut correctly. See the
first picture to see the added spacers.

Note that the flue end of the box is 1 inch taller
then the other end.
Ahhhh,, Nice!

Look how they fit, Almost like I had planed
it or something. Now I have my battery box
and bragging rights. "smiles"

Note: I found this type of venting cools the
batteries in cold weather. By pulling a draft
of cold air in the bottom as warmer air goes
out the top. If you are in a cold climate see
the battery box venting page
