Point of Entry Disconnect |
Main Sections

A point of entry disconnect is a requirement and is placed where the power lines enters the home or building. It is as well a good place to install a kill-a-watt meter. The solar power is inbound from a ground mounted solar electric system. You can note this by the conduit at the bottom of the picture leading into the junction box. The conduit leaving the junction box at the top is on its way to the eve of the house to enter the attic, then on to the transfer switch.
There is a wall entry point behind the junction box providing solar electric power to the master bathroom. There is a lockable disconnect-box to the right side of the junction box. Most public utilities require a lockable disconnect on a grid interactive system to be placed beside the utility meter. All UL listed inverters will auto shutdown when the grid power goes down so the disconnect is more of a safety mater.

The image to the right is the point of entry disconnect with the door lifted and the wiring cover removed. This pull out type of disconnect allows you to see the bare connects when the disconnect is removed. Or it can be replaced upside down and will show the word OFF. One set of wires is the inbound from the solar control panel and the other is the outbound to the building or load. As always connect the bare ground wires to the ground block to insure the point of entry disconnect is grounded just like you would any other.
