Iota ITS-30R 30A mounted and wired with lid closed
Pictured is an Iota 30 amp transfer switch, It is
located in the attic and is used to control one
circuit. When following the solar energy wiring
from the inverter the current goes in to a
breaker panel through a 30 amp main breaker
then out through a 20-amp breaker. When it
reaches the house the current passes through
a disconnect box where it enters the house on
the outside. Then runs direct to the transfer
switch. The wire from the house’s breaker box
for the circuit you want to have backup power
is cut and ran to the transfer switch.
So now the transfer switch has two sources of power. The other end of the cut wire is
hooked to an added sub panel with a breaker. The output side of the transfer switch is ran
to the added sub-panel as the power source and provides protection. You must add the
extra sub panel breaker box because if something were to go wrong it would trip the
housebreaker then the backup power will take over and re-power the short and you could
get a fire. Or you might even fool yourself and think you turned off the power and get the full
bite of the inverter. Think safety.
You will notice three cables entering the
bottom of the transfer switch. In this case the
wire on the left comes from the solar electric
backup system. The cable in the middle is the
output to the house circuit that will have
backup power through a sub-panel breaker.
The cable on the right is the input from the
home’s main breaker box. Make sure you hook
all the bare ground wires to the ground block
shown in the upper left. Do not bond the
neutral to the ground. That is done in the main
control panels. Note the green light top middle
shows the switch is engaged and powered by
the grid.
Iota ITS-30R 30A mounted and wired with the cover off
This install has been wired to hold the contacts in the transfer switch together when the grid
power is present. When the Grid power goes off line it releases and allows the solar energy
backup side to take over powering your main survival mode items. These transfer switches
come in standard sizes to fit your needs.
